BOSAT National Convention 2017
Principal Speech

I am much privileged and honored to welcome you to this great occasion of the annual convention of this great citadel of learning for the 2017 annual convention of our Alma-mata.
An occasion of this nature will afford us the opportunity amongst other things to:-
-           Meet school / classmates we lost contact with for years
-           Asses the State of the school or relevant courses offered in the school whether they meet present day challenges
-           Serve as role model and encourage prospective BOSAT members to take their studies serious.
-           Link the school with industries for employment of graduates
-           Partner with NGOs to attract intervention and funding of projects.
-           Partner with Government on how to move the school to greater height e.t.c.
Government Science and Technical College Bukuru  is sixty four (64 years) in 2017. At this age, the school is not a toddler it should be seen rubbing shoulders with its age mates and contemporaries. We must have a critical analysis of our age and see whether we have truly matured and have faired well commensurate with our age and contemporaries. Anything on the contrary is quite abnormal. We must be seen and heard giving back to the school what it has made us to be in our various endeavours.
CHALLENGES
Challenges are natural part of life they keep us on our toes and stimulate us to action to look for other alternative ways for survival despite all odds.
Some of the challenges we have are:-
1.         Insecurity:- This is minimal now compared to previous years but we CANNOT sleep with our two eyes closed.
2.         Under staffing :- There have been no employment for over ten years. This scenario has affected both academic and non- academic staff as some have died, transferred their services to better well-paid jobs while others have retired and there is no replacement which led to  depletion of the staff.
3.         Feeding:- With high prices of goods (food stuff) coupled with the economic recession in the Country what students are paying as feeding fees is no more sustainable.
4.         Training materials :- This is also tied to feeding because of the high cost of the training materials required for students practicals which have become unaffordable on daily basis.
5.         Machines:- Most of the machines in the workshops are obsolete and may need refurbishing. Though some machines were provided by the past Administration of Da Dr. David Jonah Jang, the school has the challenges of having the challenges of having the machines install because of dearth of funds.
6.         Abandoned projects:- These projects were contracted in 2013 by the Redemption Government of Da Dr. David Jonah Jang for renovation. Some have been completed while others are not. We are appealing to the Rescue Government of Barr. Simon Bako Lalong to rescue the school by completing the abandoned projects inherited as he has promised to complete all abandoned projects inherited from the past Administration.

CONCLUSION
Finally I want to thank those of you who have kept the flag flying all these years despite your tight schedule. I want to challenge us to wake up to our responsibilities because posterity will NOT forgive us when we are in a position to move this school to greater heights but have chosen to remain in a state of positivity. We must not allow this school to go into extinction because of our inaction.
Remember that there are only two public schools on the Plateau.
These are:-
1.         Government Science and Technical College Bukuru
2.         Others.
The choice of making the school become what we want it to be is ours.
I wish you a peaceful and successful convention and safe journey to your various destinations.
